...to give...

What is the greatest gift you've ever given (at any time, not just Christmas)? Explain the nature of the gift itself. Who was the receiver of the gift? Why them? Why did you give it? What was "great" about the experience?

  1. The greatest gift I have ever given was when I gave my aunt a crochet angel. This angel that I made was all white and about seven inches tall. This gift was something that I had always wanted to give her I had just never found a pattern for it. The receiver of my gift was my aunt who is also my godmother. At Christmas my mom’s whole family has a tradition that the godparents and godchildren exchange gifts until they graduate high school. I have been making her a gift for the past several years. I gave it to her because my mom got an angel from her godchild so I thought that is would be nice for my godmother. The reason the experience was great was because my godmother really loved it and almost cried over it.

  2. The greatest gift I've ever given was to my brother at Christmas time. Usually, for most families, they pass around gifts and have fun exchanging their presents. I wanted to give this idea a personal twist that my family could enjoy, so I got my brother a prank gift. I gave him a large box, weighted down by random junk, with a note inside. The note read, "I.O.U" and was designed to look like the golden ticket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We all had a good laugh about it and there were no hurt feelings. Then, I gave him his real gift, which I can't remember what it was. The point, though, is that this gave me and my brother a competition, a new tradition, to participate in every year. We each get a real gift and a fake gift to laugh about. We're both good sports about it, but I think I'll always remember this gift because it was a way of making a played out tradition unique and different. I chose this my brother because I knew he wouldn't get upset or throw a fit about getting a fake gift, and I knew they'd want to participate the following year.

  3. A gift I have given was for Christmas. It was to my little cousin Carter. I gave him a toy nerf gun that was blue and orange and it shot blue and orange rubber bullets. I gave him this gift because he had put it on his Christmas list. Giving him that gift was great because he shot everyone else there making them mad. It was hilarious.

  4. One of the best gifts I have ever given would probably be what I got my mom for her birthday. Her birthday is close to Christmas, so I never know what to get her for Christmas and what ideas to get her for her birthday. For her birthday, I bought her a perfume sampler set from Sephora. My mom is always looking for new perfume to wear and never really wanted to spend too much money on an expensive one. The sampler I bought her had samples from 15 different perfumes. They are all nice brands like Gucci, Dior, Dolce & Cabana, and YSL just to name a few. Also, with the set came a voucher so my mom can go back to Sephora and get the full sized version of her favorite one. I liked getting it for my mom because, even though it was pricey for me, I knew it would be something she would really enjoy and could use for a long time.

  5. The greatest gift I have ever given would probably be one of my many arts and crafts from elementary school. Like every kid in elementary school, I had to make many different things for art class. They ranged from clay pots to personalized magnets. Instead of throwing them away, I gifted them all to my mom. I gave them to her because I knew she would appreciate my work no matter how poorly it had been put together. The greatest part was something that I hadn’t realized until now when writing this post. The best part about those gifts is the fact that they are still decorated around my house now. My mom has never taken them down or thrown them away. This to me shows how much they truly mean to both her and myself.

  6. The greatest gift I have ever given was a friendship necklace. I gave it to my best friend. She has gone through so much this past year and I wanted to give her something to remember our friendship and trust when we aren’t together, which isn’t very often. I wanted her to realize that she can come talk to me anytime she wants. She loves her necklace and wears it all the time. For how often she wears it, shows that she can trust me and will know I’m always with her.

  7. The best gift that I have ever given someone would be the gift that I gave my grandma. I made a picture frame when I was younger and then I painted it and gave it to her. I also put a picture of her and I in the picture frame. My grandma was the receiver of this gift. I painted it all different colors and made it look nice and she loved it. I picked her to give this gift to because I knew that she would love what I made, and I put a lot of thought and effort into this gift. I knew that she would really appreciate all the hard work and effort that I put into the picture frame. The reason that this gift was so great was that I put a picture of us together in the picture frame and it meant a lot to her. Even though it wasn't very good she still has it up around her house. This is how I knew that it was a great gift.

  8. I would say that the greatest gift I have ever given someone, as silly as it may sound, is a coupon book. Now, this was not your ordinary coupon book. It was not a book filled with "10% of Campbell Soup", or "Buy one get one free toilet paper", these coupons were genuinely from the heart. Each coupon were personalized and unique. For example a coupon might say something like "One Free Hug" and be decorated with glitter and a sticker or two. My three year old self thought that this was the perfect gift to give my mother on Christmas, and was so eager to see her reaction. . . . that I gave it to her that day. Sure, it kind of defeated the point of a Christmas present, yet I still think that she loved it! In fact, she still has it today! Occasionally she would use a coupon, but wanted to preserve the gift to reminisce later in life. Even after I have gotten older and been able to purchase more valuable gifts, she still considers that to be the sweetest one.

  9. The greatest gift I have ever given is a teddy bear I made. The nature of this gift was not very well done considering I made it when I was very young. It was made of a fuzzy fabric. This fabric was pink with blue polka dots. The bear itself was also not that big. The receiver of my gift was my little cousin Livvy. I chose her because she was the cousin, I was most connected to at the time, mostly because she liked me back. I gave this gift because my parents inspired the idea. They wanted to have my sisters and I give gifts instead of always receiving. That’s when the whole idea formulated. The greatest thing about this experience was not only getting to be creative and create something for someone I love, but when I was told her reaction to the gift. All in all, the experience made me want to give more for my family and I believe made me less selfish.

  10. The best gift I ever gave was to my mother. I got her a gift for her birthday along time ago when I was really young, i'm not sure exactly how old I was. I got her a wooden flower to hang on the wall. I got it for her because I thought was cool, also I got it because my brother and sister were getting her a gift and I wanted to be better then them. She really like the gift, she more liked the thought behind the gift because she knew I spent all my money on it. She thought it was nice because she expected me to make a card of something but she was happy that I thought about her instead of just buying candy like I normally would.-Ben Fransen

  11. The greatest gift I have ever given would be socks underwear and a sweatshirt to my friends that I call my brothers. This was a great gift because they come from families who struggle, and they don’t get to have nice things such as Nike socks sweatshirts or Calvin Klein underwear. I picked them because I know how it is to struggle and not have name brand clothes like everyone else. I picked them also because like I said there my brothers there like family to me because we have been through a lot together and were there for each other no matter what. The best thing about the experience was that they were very thankful and happy. It was around Christmas time and I knew that they wouldn’t probably get presents. So, I felt like I did something good and showed them that they were family to me and that they wouldn't be left out.
